Stucco Reference Archives Index:

A B C D E F G H I J M N P R S T U V W

Executive Summary

This index of stucco reference archival information is a catalog of all stucco-related documents that I have located.

Website links to organizations with stucco-related information are provided for convenient access.

A StuccoMetrics.com Stucco Essentials Suggested Reading List is provided as well as Stucco Performance Testing documentation.

Context

Stucco as an exterior wall cladding has evolved for well over a century in the USA. A significant, wide-ranging and rich body of technical and aesthetic information is conveyed in various archived documents throughout its history, we just need to know about them and have access to them for them to inform us and be useful. The multitude of resources available contains knowledge about nearly every aesthetic and technical aspect concerning stucco, and from various perspectives.

Observations

The vast amount of information available can be overwhelming. It is important if not critical however, to be familiar with all information and viewpoints available before forming opinions based on limited references.

Depending on the resource, different perspectives on the same topics exist, many of which are harmonious but some of which conflict.

Discussion

Reference documents and information on stucco include an enormous range of published documents and more recently, websites. Books, manuals, periodicals, patents, technical guides and historical records. Documents are published and distributed by professional and trade organizations, research groups, Industry Standards organizations, code organizations, even governments, and more. So much information is available, that as time has passed, we, collectively, have forgotten more than we know, or we have selective memory.

Many of the stucco reference documents can be located online directly or obtained through their sponsoring organizations.

Stucco wall cladding systems and components can be complex but knowledge of basic design, material property and installation fundamentals and essential stucco principles leads to understanding and high quality stucco design and installation. For any complex topic, to be fully informed it is important to know and understand all the information available, including differing perspectives, to achieve a holistic viewpoint and understanding. Conflicting information exists in the industry regarding stucco, occurs in all sectors of the industry and occasionally occurs from the same source. This StuccoMetrics.com Reference Archives list is not edited or selective; it includes all stucco-related documentation I have been able to locate, from antiquated to contemporary. At least one reference source to support any position is available, but that does not necessarily lead to understanding which requires an understanding of all viewpoints and discernment. A significant part of the industry conflicts are related to inaccurate or misapplied use of terminology, which is a manifestation of the lack of a definitive understanding of essential principles about stucco that causes misunderstandings and misapplication of information that is otherwise sound. A goal of this website is to hopefully, provide some amount of clarity and make progress on resolving conflicts.

The StuccoMetrics.com Stucco Essentials Suggested Reading List includes a wide range of stucco reference documents that will give the reader exposure to important stucco principles. This list of documents is not comprehensive of all significant stucco reference documents, it is merely a primer, and is subject to change from time to time. Inclusion on the list does not constitute endorsement of specific reference documents; exclusion does not suggest documents that are not worthwhile.

Stucco Performance Testing is the documentation of known performance testing, studies, and laboratory and field evaluations of stucco wall cladding assemblies, subassemblies and components. Stucco performance testing has been completed by various entities public and private since the earliest uses of stucco through current times. Testing protocols useful for testing stucco are also indicated. Stucco testing documentation is informative and useful information for your reference.

Conclusions

For a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of stucco, know and understand its complete history from all available resources, not just a select data set.

Suggestions

Use this index as a comprehensive guide to stucco information.

If you know of any additional resources, please let me know about them and I would be happy to include them here.
